Jen’s priorities reflect the issues she hears about most from District One residents: thoughtful planning, environmental stewardship, safe neighborhoods, and a thriving local economy.

“Carlsbad is a special community, and thoughtful leadership is essential as we plan for the future. I’m running because I believe residents deserve a voice in the decisions shaping our city.”

Responsible Growth and Housing

Jen believes in smart land use decisions that maintain neighborhood character and ensure infrastructure keeps pace with growth. She supports thoughtful development that aligns with the Carlsbad General Plan and carefully evaluates impacts on traffic congestion, road capacity, utilities, schools, public safety, and other critical community resources. Jen believes new development should only move forward when infrastructure, mobility, and overall community impacts are responsibly addressed.

Environmental Stewardship

Jen supports the commitments and projects noted in the city of Carlsbad’s Climate Action Plan. She backs the city’s partnership with the Clean Energy Alliance and expanding the availability of renewable electricity options to all residents, rather than relying on fossil fuel electricity. The city must continue to commit to solutions in transportation and development that result in a responsible reduction of emissions. Jen supports practical fiscal decisions that protect our coastline and ensure that Carlsbad remains a healthy and resilient place for future generations.

Safe Neighborhoods and Support for Families

Jen believes in the promise of the city’s Five Year Strategic Plan in recognizing city priorities for planning and spending between 2023 and 2027. Carlsbad must continue to prioritize strong public safety services for our neighborhoods, local schools, parks and beaches. The city planners must continue to implement programs that calm traffic near schools and parks. Jen believes that we must maintain strong safety protocols with programs that promote fire prevention, coastal safety & mental health response teams. The city has taken action to implement safety protocols for e-bike riders but Jen believes there must be stronger communications to all residents to make these policies impactful and ultimately safe for riders.

Thriving Local Businesses and Village Vibrancy

Jen believes that the small businesses in our community are the backbone of Carlsbad. Locally owned shops create the welcoming atmosphere that make our city special for our residents and that contribute to the tourism income generated each year. Jen has spent time talking to business owners and understands their concerns. As our city grows we must ensure that new development enhances the character of Carlsbad rather than detract from it. Project approval should be a process of thoughtful negotiation and strong design expectations to preserve our city.
